My cats have diarrhea and grey stools after boarding. What's next?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 11 months old | 13 lbs

I had left my 2 cats in a boarding for 4 days as I was travelling. After taking the back home ,I observed very loose watery stools and mucous. My local vet prescribed 2 syrups- redimix and flagyl.I continued this medicine for a week but it don't help.I stopped giving them their usual food (whiskas ) and gave them egg or chicken instead. That has stopped the wet stools but now the stools are grey in color. Also, whenever I give them whiskas, the watery stools come back.Kindly suggest.

Hello. It sounds like your cats may have picked up something while boarding or that they still have a gi infection. I would recommend having them rechecked and also having a fecal test run. Grey stools are not normal and it sounds like they may need additional medications. I would also see if your vet can prescribe a probiotic to help get their gi flora back to a healthy level. I hope that helps!
