Dog has a red, yellow lump on vulva. Is it an infection or bite?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed

I have a 4yr old Border Jack. Yesterday I noticed she had a pink pea like lump at the bottom of her vulva which she was licking a lot. Today the lump is bigger, deep red with yellow in. I don’t know if it’s a bite or what to do to help. Please advise.

This could be an infection but could rarely indicate a type of skin tumor like a mast cell tumor. You can try to keep her from licking the area and apply an antibiotic ointment to see if it helps. However if it gets worse, does not improve, she has any vaginal discharge and/or odor it can indicate a more serious problem and she needs to be seen by a veterinarian
