Why does my cat have sores in both ears and how can I treat them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 2 days old | 12 lbs

Any idea what could be causing the sores in my cats ear and how to treat them?? It’s in both ears, but I could only get a pic of one side.

Hi! It looks like Max may have a bacterial infection, or possibly he may have caused these sores by scratching his ears with his nails. Does he seem to have itchy ears at all? I would try some vitamin e oil to sooth the skin but I’d recommend him being seen by his vet to check deep in his ears for an infection or mites which could cause the itching. It’s also possible Max may have some allergies causing theses sores. Your vet can help you figure out the root of the problem. Best wishes to you and Max.

Poor Max! It's possible the infection has spread but it could be unrelated. If you have any routine ear cleaner, you can clean out the right ear every day to see if this helps. Have him examined as soon as your vet opens again. Here is a link about ear cleaning: https://www.petcoach.co/article/7-steps-to-clean-your-dog-s-ears-properly/ I hope Max starts feeling better quickly.
