Why is my cat pooping outside the litter box and acting aggressive?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siberian | Female | spayed | 4 years and 7 months old | 10 lbs

Hello, My cat as of late has been defecating outside the litter box. We have not changed the litter or the location of the box. Between episodes, she has been acting normally. After episodes, she has been very hostile (hissing and aggressive meow). Poop consistency has been normal during the episodes and in the litter box upon cleaning. Thanks so much, Simon

Hi Simon. It sounds like Katya has something causing her pain when she is defecating. This could be due to lower back pain or a gastrointestinal issue. I would try changing the litter again and adding a second litter box to her associating pain with the litter box, but I would also have your vet evaluate and find out if there is something g physical causing the issue. Hope that helps!
