My new kitten has a cold. What can I do at home before her vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 1 day old | 1lb

My Kitten has a cold. She has yet to go to the vet because I've only had her a week. She is eating, playing, and using the bathroom. She is sneezing a lot though which makes me think she may have a cold from being outside where she previously was. Is there anything I can do for her until her vet appointment in a week?

Congratulations on adding Khloe to your family! Many kittens come with colds that are caused by viruses. At home you need to make sure she is eating a balanced, high quality kitten food. Make sure she is drinking water and that she is not having a lot of stress (like being chased around by kids or dogs). You can generally find vitamin supplements at pet stores as well as lysine-both of which can help support her immune system. As long as she is bright, playful and eating well, you are probably fine to wait til your vet appointment. If she begins to show signs of illness, then call the vet to see if you can get in sooner. Best of luck with little Khloe!
