My dog's ear cut looks infected. How can I help it heal faster?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | spayed | 6 years old | 70 lbs

Our dog was shaking and scratching at her ear so we put some drops in. They seemed to help treat the initial problem (she's no longer scratching or shaking) but she had cut the inside of her ear when she was scratching and now that looks infected. We've been washing it out with an ear rinse and putting Neosporin on it and it seems to be improving slowly. Is there anything else I can use to help the healing process?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If it is healing and she has stopped scratching I would continue your treatment plan until the area has scabbed over. If it fails to heal I recommend having your Vet examine it and see if antibiotics are needed. I hope this helps and I wish Winnie the best!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like it could be infected. I recommend you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If an infection is confirmed, antibiotics could be prescribed. Best of luck!
