My cat has hind end pain, drinks more, is tired. Could it be kidneys?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years old | 10 lbs

My 2yr old cat has recently been having pain in her hind end. I thought maybe she strained a muscle outside, but now she occasionally limps and is hunched over when she moves. Her intake of water has also increased. The last 2 days all she wants to do is sleep and doesn’t even want to go outside. She still eats fairly well. I wonder if I need her kidneys checked. This has all happened in less than a month.

Kidney disease is definitely a possible cause of back pain and an increase in drinking. It can also make her feel bad and less active. I recommend taking her to the vet sometime soon, because some causes of kidney disease like infections and stones can be successfully treated and further damage to the kidneys can be prevented. I hope that helps and Thor gets better soon.
