My senior chihuahua's scabies is worsening. Does she need a vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | 13 years and 9 months old | 10 lbs

My chihuahua contracted notoedric scabies from a kitten we rescued. Her first treatment was on Oct 21st by injection. She got another one a week later and has been on antibiotics since Oct 21st. She started a shampoo treatment Oct 28th of Chlorhex. The vet said if she is not better by 5 treatments bring her back. Treatments are every 3 days. She is 13 years old. Since she has more spots with scabs and losing hair however they are not red as before. Does she need to go to the vet sooner or is

Hi there and thanks for posting this question. She is older and her immune system may be not as robust as we would like. I would recommend that you have another appointment with your veterinarian to see if she needs another injection. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon.
