Dog's fur changed after new food. Is pork lard safe for a silky coat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Whippet | Male | 7 years old | 31 lbs

I have changed my dog's food from Royal Canine to Sam's Field as he did not like Royal lately. He has more energy now and looks happier but I have noticed a slight change in his fur. Can I give him occasionaly one spoon of pork lard we use for cooking as I heard it is very good for his fur and it will be silky again. Or is it bad for him? Thank you!

Fish oil with a high percentage of EPA and DHA has been proven to be helpful in skin health. I would recommend calling your veterinarian to discuss whether they feel this would be a good choice for Marty, and what dose would be best for him. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
