My 11-year-old dog has recurring lumps on his back. What could it be?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Male | neutered | 11 years and 6 months old | 19 lbs

Hello, my dog has been suffering with lumps over his back. He is 11yr old cavalier, we have not changed his food, shampoo etc however these lumps keep flaring. He has been orescribed medicated shampoo and been on antibiotics which worked for a while however the lumps havehave started to flare. They seem to appear all at once. Any idea what this could be? Due to go back to vets next week.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This certainly sounds like some type of allergic reaction. Has your veterinarian recommended using any of the allergy medications available now? Apoquel, a pill, & Cytopoint, an injection that lasts 1-2 months are the newest we have to prevent allergic responses. I would also consider adding a good fish oil to Timmy's diet. There are many available, but any that provide 20 mg/pound EFA are the best. Hope this helps. Take care.
