My dog has a hard, dark spot on his ear. Is it a scab or infection?

Hello, I was playing with my dog when I suddenly felt something hard on his ears, he sometimes scratches so it might be a scratch, but I want to be sure that it isn't an infection or anything bad. It looks dark and it might be painful, because my dog won't let me touch or look at his ears. Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | 5 years old

As long as it continues to heal up then Buffy is likely going to be just fine.
