Puppy has worms, I'm itchy. Are worms contagious to me and other dogs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 3 months old | 3 lbs

Hi I have had a puppy for 1 week now with his first set of shots. We noticed white grain worms in his poop right away. I just read he isn't suppose to sleep in your bed while being treated for worms nut he's been sleeping in my bed since I got him. I also have been really itchy at night since I have had him. No rashesor bumps but my scalp is itchy and my arms and legs. What would u recommend I do? I also have two older senior dogs over ten yrs old should i get them dewormed as well?

I recommend worming Jefferson every 2 weeks for 2 treatments then monthly until 6months. I would also recommend worming the two older dogs twice, 1 month apart and also to obtain a human worm dose for all people in the house from your pharmacist or drug store as some worms are potentially contagious. Be sure to collect all stools as soon as possible and dispose of carefully to limit potential contamination of the yard etc
