My dog hurt his leg and is aggressive when I try to help. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 11 years old | 14 lbs

My dog seems to have hurt his right hind leg and when I try to pick him up he gets very vicious and tries to bite me. I can tell he is in pain but he won't let me help him. He is able to put weight on it so i don't think it is broken, but he won't move from the position he is in. What should I do?

I would recommend that Cheeko get examined by a vet as soon as possible. Even if you don't see much change in his ability to walk, a broken bone is still possible. Other possible causes for his pain include a small fractured bone, severe arthritis, muscle sprain, muscles spasms, or pain in the abdomen or back. Unfortunately there are no OTC human medications that are safe to use in this scenario, and it sound like Cheeko is in a lot of pain.
