Why does my dog have sensitive, swollen, cracked skin with hair loss?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 12 lbs

My dog has 3 spots around his snout, 1 on his neck and 1 on chest. All about 1/2" diameter. Sensitive, Swollen, dry and cracked with slight hair loss in those areas. No we need. No food changes. New kitten to the home 4 weeks ago but it has nothing similar. What could this be?

This may be a skin infection. It may be bacterial or fungal. I would be very suspicious of a fungal infection known as ringworm. I would take Moopsie and the new kitten to a veterinarian as soon as possible. If it is ringworm, the new kitten may be the carrier. Your veterinarian can determine what type of skin infection that is and check the kitten for the same thing. Ringworm is very contagious to everyone in the house.
