My dog has a lump under her ribs. Should I wait for the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Brittany | Female | spayed | 9 years and 1 month old | 29 lbs

Our Brittany had had a couple lipomas on her chest. 2 months ago or there abouts my groomer found a lump on her side, under her rib area. Hard to say if it's movable due to the location. I'm actually afraid to go to the vet but she is due for a physical in December. She has her physicals every year as scheduled. We don't know what we would do without her.....She is a great dog. She's active and runs daily, she eats without problems

Bumps can be benign, as you know. If your veterinarian has any concerns that this is more than just a lipoma, then they will likely recommend removal. The goal would be complete removal and hopefully be curative. But you can’t make a plan until she is examined. I would not wait until December, I would go in early and see what your doctor has to say about it. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
