My dog has a chicken allergy. Can she eat food with trace chicken?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 5 months and 26 days old | 13 lbs

Blue is allergic to chicken does that mean she can never have any food even treats that has any chicken ingredients in it? Even if chicken is not the primary ingredient?

Hello and thanks for your post. Yes! This means Blueberry cannot have anything that has any chicken, chicken by product, chicken meal, etc in it even if chicken is not the primary ingredient. You will have to read the food labels very closely to ensure no chicken is included in the ingredients as this could trigger her allergy. I hope this helps and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
