My Yorkiepoo has a strange spot on his back. Should I biopsy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkipoo | Male | neutered | 4 years and 1 month old | 12 lbs

My Yorkiepoo has a spot on his back right side just above his back leg. It is only on one side so it is not bi-lateral. He has been checked for yeast and ringworm and doesn’t seem bothered by it. He has been examined by a vet but they don’t have an answer. Their recommendation is a pinch biopsy. He has had it for about 2 months. It is hard to tell but I don’t think it has gotten much bigger. I took a picture with my ring tonwatch for size changes.

Unfortunately, the only way to determine what some skin lesions are is to take a biopsy sample and have a pathologist evaluate it under the microscope. So, that is the only way that you will have an answer. There may or may not be any treatment that will improve it, but that way you will know what it is. The only other thing that I would ask your veterinarian is if Wish received his Rabies vaccination at that location. I have had a couple of dogs have similar skin problems after a Rabies vaccination. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
