Is my puppy's sticky eye discharge normal? How often should I clean?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 20 days old | 55 lbs

My 8 months lab usually has a bit of rheums on his eyes. I clean up for him about 4 times per day. I would like to know if it’s normal or something to check with his health. FYI. He got kennel cough when he was younger so he has to have anti biotic during 20 days. But now he seems perfectly healthy with his nutrition (diet royal canine and spoiled chicken break/ beep to keep him in shape). I also give him some carrot and sweet potato like snack very often.
Thank you very much for your answers!!

Just to clarify - do you mean he has a little bit of sticky eye discharge? - if its clear or a little white or brown this can be normal as long as his eyes are not red or squinted shut when they should be open. A brief wipe away every day is all that is needed - use a soft tissue or damp washcloth (flannel). I also just want to check - did auto correct change "Boiled" chicken to spoiled? as I really don't think you should feed him spoiled meat! same as in humans, it can make him sick. Veggies like carrots and sweet potato are fine but should make up no more than a quarter of his meal.
