My rescue dog has a worsening sore on his private area. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered

There's a sore on my dogs private area that only seems to be getting worse and not sure what to do. Any ideas what this is? I just rescued him from a shelter and they told me it was skin allergies but I'm not so sure. It's really bad looking. Photos graphic

This definitely does not look related to skin allergies. It looks most suspicious of a tumor known as hemangiosarcoma. These don't tend to spread to the rest of the body, but do spread to other areas of the skin along the abdomen. These tumors can grow and are easily ulcerated and can bleed profusely. I recommend having a vet reevaluate this. You may consider calling the shelter and having them recheck this lesion. I would want to remove this mass and send it the lab for testing in order to be sure of the specific type of tumor this is. I hope that helps and all is well with Brick.
