My dog's eye is red, has discharge, and a grayish pupil. What's wrong?

My basset hounds pupil has been grayish and now the white part of his eye is red and it appears to have discharge coming from his eye

This indicates either an infection of the inside of the eye, or the outer part of the eye (cornea). It's best to get this evaluated and treated by a veterinarian, because these infections can quickly cause severe damage to the eye. It's not an emergency, but best to get him seen within the next day or two. For now, you can flush the eye with saline solution (can find this in the supermarket or pharmacy) three times a day to help give some relief. I hope that helps and Humphrey gets better soon.
