My cat plays too rough and bites. How can I teach him to be gentle?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 years and 6 months old | 7 lbs

I have a 7 year old male neutered cat that I saved as a newborn kitten and raised on a bottle. He likes to play but is way to aggressive. He wasn't raised with a mother car or litter mates so never learned to be gentle. How can I teach him to play nice and not hurt me?

Always play with a toy, never with your hand. When he starts to get too wound up then I would put him in a dark room with no interaction for 30 minutes or so until he calms down. It will take repitition and time but eventually he will learn to not be as aggressive. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
