My cat has a growing, painless leg bump. Should I worry about it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 13 years and 6 months old | 7 lbs

My cat has a bump on top of his leg that appeared earlier this year. It has grown over time but seems to be settled now. It doesn't seem to affect him at all and he doesn't lick it or bother it at all. Also has no pain when I touch it. Is this anything to worry about? I know it should probably be tested, but what do you guys think? Thanks

I do recommend having it tested. It may just be something as simple as a cyst if it is fluid filled, but without being able to feel the lump it is hard to determine that. If it is a cyst and it does not bother your cat, your veterinarian may be able to drain the cyst although it can easily fill back up.
