Hi thanks for your question. It is hard to say exactly what the sore could be caused by without examining Max and taking a sample of the lesion first. This should be done at your local veterinarian's office to determine if it is something of concern or not and if it needs to be treated. I hope this helps and I wish you and Max the best!
