Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 12 years and 5 months old | 90 lbs
my senior dog will not leave my side when i am home. While my husband has been the primary caregiver for BooBoo, lately the dog has been insistent on sitting on me, nudging me and nosing his way under my legs when i am at the table. I can't get much quiet time and am wondering if this is a behavior i can extinguish or how i can comfort him and get some space. Thanks so much.

I wish our pets could talk. This could be behavioral or medical. Pain from arthritis can cause behavior changes. Dogs can become senile, it could be separation anxiety. Changes in senses like blindness or deafness can cause behavior change. I would recommend an exam to rule out medical problems before assuming it is behavioral. I am a big fan of crate training to give dogs a sense of security and safety. Get a nice orthopedic bed and favorite treats or toys to make this a safe enjoyable space. Hope that helps.
