Did giving my dog two antibiotics worsen his severe illness?

My dog passed away. He was on treatment with doxy for tick fever. He showed only slight improvement in 2 days after iron injection. Hes condition was slowly worsening & he developed edema in forelimbs. I changed vet & she gave him amoxcyllin clavulanate twice a day along with once a day doxy coz of severe edema. But no improvement. I took him to another vet & he suspects cancer. Do you feel two antibiotics at a time worsened hes condition ? two antibiotics at a time are often given (although not for tick fever in most cases) and i do not believe this had anything to do with his condition worsening, he was just very very ill and most probably too far gone for the treatment to save him.
