Why is my 3-month pitbull straining to poop, not eating, and drowsy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 1 day old | 16 lbs

My 3 month old pitbull is finding it difficult to poop. Her poop is soft though when it comes out. She keeps trying to push poop out for a long time but very little comes out. Till yesterday she had a great appetite but today she has stopped eating and is very drowsy.

It sounds like she is strained to defecate, likely due to loose stools. Has she been vaccinated? Has she been dewormed or had a negative fecal exam for parasites? If she was eating I wouldn’t be as concerned, but with the poor appetite I am very concerned. Parvovirus or intestinal parasites are high on my list of concerns. Please have her seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon.
