My finch was eaten from its cage. What predators attack outdoor birds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered

I had a pair of zebra finches in a closed cage. I had it for 4 days. The birds are in my terrace. All night I close the cage with a bedsheet. The 5th day morning when I removed the bedsheet only one Finch was there. The cage was fully closed. But the male Finch's feathers was outside. What can eat a Finch. I also have some love birds. How can I stop predators eating my birds.

I am sorry for your loss. Cats, opossum, & raccoons are all very adept at hooking & pulling a small bird thru the cage bars. You must protect your birds with a strong enclosure. Perhaps you can build a box using strong lumbar & wire cloth. Otherwise, bring your cages in at night to protect your precious birds.
