Why does my cat's diabetes appear and disappear seasonally?

Strange question! Can diabetes in cats be seasonal? My cat of about 11-12 years old was diagnosed last May with diabetes and placed on insulin. We check his blood sugar twice a day before meals. By September we no longer gave him insulin as his blood sugar remained below 150. In April of this year we saw the signs and began testing. Sure enough his blood sugar was over 300. Took a while to stabilize but again over the past month his blood sugars are low and we're frequently holding the insulin

Sounds like Cassie is a transient diabetic. Could it happen seasonally? I suppose, but there is not any scientific evidence in that regard. Transient diabetes is a fairly common occurrence in cats. Approximately 30% of diabetic cats are reported to be transient diabetics. Transient diabetic cats go into spontaneous remission, that is, clinical symptoms such as polyuria (urinating a lot) and polydipsia (drinking a lot) resolve, blood glucose levels normalize and sugar spilling into the urine (glucosuria) disappears. Cats are still diabetic but just considered to be subclinical during these phases. Hope this answers your question!
