My dog is still sick. Is $300 for vet bloodwork & x-ray fair?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Male | neutered | 8 years and 10 months old | 8 lbs

My toypoodle has always had digestive issues and I recently took him to the vet. They wanted to charge me about $300 for bloodwork and an xray, but instead I wanted to try out other options first. They prescribed him some antibiotics, probiotic, digestive pill and injections and designer (he has a parasite) but he still vomitted and stopped eating for 2 days. Should I just get the bloodwork & xray done? Is $300 a good price or should I look elsewhere? Thanks!!

If he is still sick then I agree you need to continue with a work up. X-rays, blood work , abdominal ultrasound, then exploratory surgery is usually the order that I proceed in working these patients up. You can call around for prices in your area but honestly it sounds reasonable and if you like your veterinarian then I would stay. Best of luck and I hope you find an answer soon!
