Cat has fleas. When to give next Capguard dose? How to treat home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 7 lbs

My 9 month old, indoor cat has fleas and we purchased Capguard from our local pet store and gave him his first pill last night. We also washed him with blue dawn dish soap and vacuumed our whole house last night. Should we give him another pill from the pack tonight or wait a couple of days? Also, what is the best way to be sure the fleas are gone from our carpets/couches?

Capguard can be given daily as long as you are seeing fleas on your pet. Another option would be a topical such as Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution. These are monthly applications. Since Bear has been bathed recently, you will need to wait about 2-3 days before applying a topical preventative. Treat monthly for at least three consecutive months to break the flea life cycle. Year round treatment is recommended. In addition to vacuuming, you should wash all bedding in hot water.
