My old dog's inverted nipple is sore and looks like it's closing up. What should I do?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 12 years and 2 months old | 88 lbs

My 13 yr old bitch had always had an inverted nipple. It's never been a problem. Recently she's been scratching at it. The fur around it has gone and it looks like it's closing over, when she was feeding the pups years ago I used to be able to pop it out to clean it but that wouldn't be possible now. I think it neeeds a clean though as it looks a little sore. What should I do?

Keeping it clean is the best way you can keep it from getting sore/infected. If this is not possible anymore, then it may necessary to surgically remove it. I recommend having a vet evaluate it and see if this is possible, or if there is some other treatment options. I hope that helps and this gets cleared up soon.
