Can I give my dog a flea bath for dry skin while on ivermectin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 5 months and 17 days old | 24.1 lbs

Can I give her a flea bath while she's on ivermectin for demodectic mange? It's an oatmeal flea bath which helps with her dry skin. Can I just not leave it on for the 5 minutes?

It depends on the active ingredient in the flea shampoo. If the active ingredient has the suffix of -ectin, then I would avoid it. If the active ingredient is something like fipronil, or pyrethrin, then these are safe to use with Ivermectin. As a side note, the ivermectin will kill fleas also, so the flea bath should not be necessary. It may be best to just use another dog shampoo and conditioner to help with the dry skin. I hope that helps and Shadow gets better soon.
