My female puppy is in heat. How to prevent my male dog from breeding?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 6 years old

I have two dogs one a male is around 5 and a puppy female 10 months she has just gone into heat and my male is trying to mount her how can I stop this as we don't want puppies until she's a lot older

You need to keep them completely separated all day, everyday for three weeks until she is out of heat. The male can mount her quickly and breed her if they are together for even a short amount of time. You may want to send him to a friends house or her to a kennel to keep them from breeding.
