It sounds like your puppy has developed a touch of gastroenteritis which is relatively common. Usually it will resolve in a few days if you starve the dog for 24 hours then feed plain chicken and rice until back to normal. It is also worth worming the pup. Also if it is really cold you may need to bring the pup in whilst it is sick. If the puppy starts to deteriorate or is not improving head to the vet.

Mucus can be caused by many different things, including intestinal parasites, inflammation in the GI tract, eating something very greasy or oily, among a few other things. If there are any other symptoms of illness, such as lethargy, decreased appetite, vomiting, etc, then Lady should go to the vet. If she is otherwise normal, you can try the dewormer and keep a close on her for a few days.

These signs could be compatible with a colitis, which is an inflammation of the last part of the colon, usually related to dietary indiscretion. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Hi there. Puppies can have diarrhea and or mucus in their stool for several reasons. You Mention he had worms? Did a veterinarian give him a deworming medication? I would recommend a fecal exam looking for parasites and parasite eggs if that hasn't been done yet. Occasionally parvovirus test will have a false negative so if diarrhea or lethargy continues or if he begins to vomit please have him evaluated again. Otherwise feeding small amounts of a bland diet such as chicken and rice can help mild disease.
