Dog eye bitten in fight, lethargic. Can I treat it at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 5 days old | 8 lbs

She fought with a bigger dog and end up getting bitten in the left eye. It looks awful and my poor baby is kinda lethargic and doesn't want to eat. My hometown doesn't have a Vet buteven if there is one, I don't think I can afford it. So, I want to at least ask what medicine I should give her to help her wound heal faster and to relieve her pain. Please help.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Pica! I am so sorry this happened to her and you. Sadly Pica needs to have the eye removed. There is nothing that you can do at home, she needs immediate Veterinary care. There is a high likelihood of the eye getting infected and going systemically. From the picture it looks as though the eye ball has been punctured and the eye is no longer vital. Again I am so sorry but the best thing for Pica is immediate Veterinary care. I wish you both the best!
