Why is my dog's skin red, itchy, and losing fur near his tail?

My dog has has been having really pink-red skin near his tail leading up to his lower stomach. I noticed it yesterday so I quickly bathe him with shampoo that his vet gave him for the same condition. (He has had skin allegergies before). I just walked into the room and I saw biting on his lower bad and most of his fur is gone Now!! It's never been this bad! Do yoy have any suggestions on what it might actually be? I'm taking him to the vet on Saturday. Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Male | neutered | 19 lbs
