my male dog & female dog got "stuck" last night. Is there anyway to avoid pregnancy? Breed=Shih Tzu, age=9 mos. Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 29 days old | 5 lbs

Hi there! Woops! That happens sometimes. By best advice and best solution to the problem is to have Merci spayed. Spaying her will solve this issue as well as prevent it from happening in the future. If you wish to keep Merci intact, then there is estrogen treatment available, but is associated with a variety of risks including increased risk of uterine infection. It is also not very effective as shown from previous research. Spaying her may be the way to go here. I hope this helps and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
