Is it safe to vaccinate my senior 15-year-old cat for distemper?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | 15 years and 5 months old | 3 lbs

Our cat is over 15 years old, is it dangerous to have her vaccinated for distemper? Is an inactivated vaccine better for her?

Vaccines are not age dependent but health dependent. Your vet should do blood work first due to her age to make sure there are no underlying health issues prior to a vaccine. If she is healthy and at risk and has not had one in the last 3 years, then I would reccomend getting the vaccine If there are other problems, then I would wait on any vaccines and address the other problems
