Puppy recovering from mange: How to get her to eat and stay warm?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 11 days old | 15 lbs

My puppy got mange but I've treated her and all the scabbing is gone and her hair is starting to grow back. My dilemma is she won't eat as of today. Also she's cold often from the hair loss. What can I do to get her to eat and keep warm

Hi there and thanks for posting! Poor Leia! You can try warming her up with hot water bottles or a heating pad set to low between two blankets so she doesn't burn herself. Keep her in a warm part of the house and make sure her area has a lot of warm blankets around. As far as the not eating goes, you can offer her usual food but you can warm it up or you can offer boiled chicken and rice to her heated to entice her to eat. If a couple days go by and she hasn't eaten anything, then I would have her seen by her veterinarian. I hope this helps and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
