My dog has a sore on his lip. Is it serious or should I wait?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 12 days old | 60 lbs

Bunker had a papilloma in his mouth a few weeks ago, our vet was not concerned and it has since gone away. However, tonight I have noticed this sore on the outside of his lip, should I be concerned?

Hello, sorry to hear about Bunker. That could be associated with another papilloma although they generally occur on the inner part of the mouth. It could be a local inflammation of the hair follicles either sterile or infectious (bacteria). I would recommend continuing to monitor that area for any worsening swelling, redness, pain, bleeding or any other discharge. If it does not resolve within the next 3-5 days or if if worsens then you should definitely have Bunker evaluated by your veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.
