My cat has a red lump and bald patch after a bug bite. Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 years and 5 months old | 5 lbs

My male house cat is 5years old and was recently seen with a green bug on his forehead which left him with a bald patch (assuming a reaction to the bite it gave him) I treated him with medicated wash and the patch and spot reduced but now he has a strange red lump to the side of the original bite. It’s like his skin is raised and red raw and he won’t let me clean it - should I take him the vet for checking? I’m worried it may be cancer and I’m not in a financial position to pay for his care

I would definitely take him to the vet to have this checked. From what you say I wonder if this is a tissue reaction to a little piece of the bug left behind. It looks more like reaction and infection than a tumour, but that is always a possibility. I wouldn't let that put you off, head to the vet and see what they think.
