My dog was bitten and has a red lump. What is it and what can I do?

My dog was bit by something possibly a raccoon now he has a lump near the wound and it is all red. I’m going to try and get into the vet tomorrow. What could the lump be and is there anything I can do

It could be that Tank has an abscess. This commonly occur after animal bites and are very painful to the dog. He does need to see a vet tomorrow, as if he does have an abscess, it will need to be drained and flushed, and he will need antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

It sounds like Cujo has developed an abscess from this bite, and he needs veterinary attention now for it. The abscess needs to be drained and flushed sterilely, and he will need antibiotics to treat the infection. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. My dog just had a minor "fight" with my other dog & she ended up having a couple punctures on her chest. But i started noticing this lump on her chest.. I'm guessing fluid build up? Will it go away on its own? Or is there something I can do from home
I'm concerned this is an abscess. A dog's mouth has a lot of bacteria and Diamond was bitten by the other dog, it can cause an abscess. This cannot be treated at home. You need to have her seen by a vet today. It needs to be drained in a sterile manner, and she needs antibiotics and pain medication. I hope this helps!

My dog had a bump on her face and last night some stuff started draining. I flushed the would with a salt water mixture. Nothing is coming out any longer. I believe this started from a sting/bite that never fully healed
Poor Scarlet! Bites can frequently lead to abscesses, which are pockets of infection. It might be that the stuff you saw draining was pus, indicating infection. She needs to see a vet for this, as antibiotics are needed to treat any infection. The vet can flush the wound out as well. I would take her into a vet first thing in the morning.

What should I do when my dog got bitten by a bigger dog and has a big lump on her right side?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Anytime a dog is bitten by another dog, especially a bigger dog, prompt evaluation is crucial. I recommend that you have Brownie evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. Usually what you see from the outside is just the tip of the iceberg and more internal wounds are possible. Good luck! I hope she recovers quickly!

A couple of weeks ago my rottweiler cross akita seemed to have a puntcher wound on his back. It healed but left a lump. Tonight he has chewed at it and it is now red raw and seems to be irritating him. What should we Do?
I would be concerned that there is an underlying abscess (a walled off infection) in the area of the puncture wound. This is a common occurance with bite wounds. I would recommend thoroughly cleaning the area and applying a warm compress to the area. Additionally, you will need to have Baxter seen by your veterinarian because he will likely need antibiotics. Any lumps/bumps that you notice on your dog should be checked out by your vet. Lumps are usually one of these things: * abscess * cyst * tumor * wart There is no way I can tell you what it is just by looking at a photo but I have a suspicion it is a histiocytoma (benign tumor) or a cyst. The product you are using will not hurt but it will not make this go away. It is not urgent but you should get her to your vet for an exam in the next few days.

If there is really an abscess, this should not be treated at home. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It's probably an infection that is spreading due to the bite, you must take her to the vet ASAP, the vet will drain the fluids that accumulated under the skin and prescribe antibiotics to fight the infection.

My dog was attacked by a dog two days ago. One of his injuries is a hole under his front arm. When I took him to vet not long after, I boticed a lump around the hole. Is this just swelling or infection?
It could be swelling from the bite, but there is a chance it could be due to infection. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain, but have a vet check it out if they have not already. Best of luck.

Hello, From your description and what I appreciate from the picture, the lump is red and swollen. It could be been an insect bite that has gotten infected (seems most likely), foreign object or a mass(less likely). Given that the swelling has worsened, I would advise you to have Ruger examined by a veterinarian.
