Could eating pears cause my older cockapoo to lose bladder control?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cockapoo | Female | spayed | 7 years and 10 months old | 18 lbs

My 8 year old cockapoo keeps eating pears including the seeds from our pear tree. Could this be causing her to lose bladder control? She was checked for a urinary tract infection and bladder stones and has neither of those.

What she has is probably urinary incontinence, it is quite common in older spayed female dogs and it is unrelated to the pears. you should ask your vet for treatment for this condition which is usually very effective. nevertheless eating too much pears can cause Cyanide poisoning because of the seeds so you should try and prevent this from happening.
