Is human conditioner safe for my cat's skin or will it make him sick?

My mom used human conditioner on my car and I am worried it is going to make him sick

Without knowing the exact ingredients of the conditioner, I can't say for sure it won't make him sick but typically Jasper would have to ingest it to cause toxic problems. As long as your mom washed it all out, he should be fine but it may dry out his skin and you could see some flakes and dandruff. If you do, you can give him a bath with vitamin E oil to try to add moisture to his skin. I would not use the conditioner again on him. If you are very concerned about the ingredients of the conditioner, I recommend calling the Pet Poison Hotline at 855-764-7661. It's a $49 charge but they have veterinary toxicologists available 24/7, and they can let you know if there are any ingredients in the conditioner that could be toxic to Jasper. I hope this helps!

Hello I recently showered my car using this argan oil shampoo it is orange scented and iam scared of it is toxic to my cat and if it is please tell me to to treat her
Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. As long as your cat doesn't eat/drink an excessive amount of this shampoo, she should be just fine. And as long as you didn't get any into her eyes, she should be OK. In the future, it is not recommended to use human shampoos on animals - there are special animal shampoos that are not as irritating if gotten into the eyes, and nontoxic if consumed. I recommend monitoring for any vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, or any neurologic signs such as tremors or seizures. These could indicate a toxicity. If she is squinting her eyes, this could mean you got shampoo in her eyes and caused damage to her corneas. If you see any of these signs, she should be seen by a veterinarian right away. Jasper was sprayed by a cat. We bathed him, but worry that the smell will still linger. If that's the case, is it safe to give him another bath? He had a bath a few weeks ago bc he got full of mud. Will this damage his coat?
If you do notice the smell lingering, it's fine to bathe Jasper again, but I would wait at least 24 hours before the next bath so you don't dry out his skin. This shouldn't damage his coat, it's more of a concern if you are bathing him all the time. I hope this helps!

My daughter has sprayed the cat with comfort softner quite a lot is it poisonous for him?
It's not toxic, but if he ingested some, then it can cause him to vomit or have diarrhea. It will also irritate Ringo's skin, so it's best to rinse him thoroughly with cool water for 15 minutes. Repeat the rinse tomorrow. For now, only use water and not shampoo during the rinsing. I hope that helps and all is well with Ringo.

A one-time bath using a sensitive skin or gentle wash designed for people likely won't harm your cat, but it may still be a good idea to check any specific ingredients in it for toxicity. You can find lists of toxic plants/substances on sites such as here: https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control Signs of toxicity to look out for may include minor symptoms such as drooling, foaming at the mouth, seizure, disorientation, dilation of pupils, vomiting or diarrhea. If you do see any signs that may indicate a possible toxicity or find an ingredient that is toxic to your pets in it, it is best to contact your local veterinarian for treatment.

My dog ate a little bit of hair conditioner. Will he be ok?
It depends on the specific ingredients in the conditioner, but in most cases this does not cause significant problems. The problems are usually restricted to irritation of the stomach and intestines, which will cause vomiting and diarrhea. If he is vomiting profusely or otherwise acting strangely, then it will be best to take him to a vet for treatment. My 5 yr.old tabby, Toby, knocked over fabric softener spilled it and walked in it, got it on his back leg and tail, is it bad for him to lick it, I tried to wipe it off with a wet wash cloth, but it still smell, so I don't know if it's all off. Will
Oh no, that was naughty of Toby to knock over the fabric softener and then walk in it. Yes, it can make him sick to lick it. Fabric softeners can contain cationic detergents, and ingesting it can be toxic. There is a possibility of severe side effects such as vomiting, oral ulcers, seizures, drops in blood pressure, collapse, or fluid in the lungs. I would bath him now in water water and Dawn dish soap to get all the fabric softener off of him. Make sure to bathe him thoroughly, and keep an eye on him. If you see any signs of toxicity, which include difficulty breathing, vomiting, excessively salivation, lethargy, collapse, seizures, or congestion, I would have him seen by a vet immediately.

I did research the name, and I could not find any information about it being toxic to cats. I suspect that if it was causing problems, it would have come up on my veterinary database. However, I am not a big fan of essential oils in cats. They do not tolerate them as well as dogs do. So, I would not use it again in my cats to be on the safe side. I think that they are going to be just fine. If they did start to show irritation - you will need to bathe in Dawn dish soap to get the oil off. I would recommend allowing Jasper to eat right away. If he's feeling nauseous he will leave the food alone. If he is continuing to vomit and unable to eat by 24 hours after this all started, I would strongly recommend taking him back to the veterinarian for evaluation. Cats can get very ill with something called hepatic lipidosis from not eating for a prolonged time. I would also worried about toxicity from the shampoo if Jasper ate a lot of it. At the very least after 24 hours he will need some fluid underneath his skin to help rehydrate him and probably some anti-nausea medication. At home provide him lots of opportunities to drink water and eat, and limit his stress. He may want to just hang out by himself or sleep. Reasons to seek help before 24 hours include extreme lethargy, uncontrollable vomiting, and looking pale. Good luck, I hope Jasper feels better soon!

I am concerned that he is not eating, moving, or drinking and is exhibiting pain. He may have licked some of the shampoo causing some stomach upset but I think he needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause of all his problems and best way to treat. He might need an anti-vomiting medication and pain medications to make him feel better. Although there are no reports that head and shoulders is toxic to cats, in the future, only bathe him with shampoos that are labeled for use in cats. Your vet can recommend the best shampoo based on the condition of his skin.
