This looks extremely painful and could be due to trauma, infection (fungal, bacterial or parasites) or even metabolic disease. Your veterinarian will be able to perform tests to properly diagnose Alexander and prescribe appropriate treatment.

You need to take Alexander to the vet right away as this will be painful and a big risk for infection. I don't think they will be able to do much for him.as the damage is extensive, but they can assess him and may have to make the unfortunate decision to put him to sleep.
