My dog suddenly licks our newborn after avoiding. Is this okay?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 7 lbs

Since coming home with our newborn our dog has kept her distance. And all of a sudden today she starts getting right up on him and licking his legs and arms. Is this behavior ok.?

Hi there and congratulations on your new baby! How exciting. It can be normal for a dog who was otherwise the center of attention before the baby arrived to be a little confused and perhaps uncertain of the new member of the family. Suddenly there is something new in the house that cries and makes strange noises! This can be unsettling for a dog who has never encountered a new born or a baby before. The good news is, she will get use to it and adapt. It sounds like she already is as evident with the licks on the arms and legs. Licking can be a sign of affection or an indication Lola wants to be friends with your new baby. I hope this helps and best wishes to you!
