Why won't my dog eat for days but is still active and drinking?

My dog has quit eating but is still drinking water. Hasn't eat in a few days. He still seams active.

It is concerning that Diesel has stopped eating, and he will be losing weight from not eating. Anorexia is a very general sign of illness but it can be caused by dental problems, systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. It is serious when a dog hasn't eaten in a few days, and he needs veterinary care asap. Get in him into a vet right away to diagnose what is causing his anorexia so he can be treated. In the meantime, try to tempt to eat with some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts. If he refuses to eat this, find a vet to see him now. I hope this helps!

Poor Deisel! This could mean a variety of things. Certainly anorexia tends to occur when there is an issue of some sort. It tends to be a very non-specific sign that can occur with several conditions. His issues could be due perhaps eating something outside yesterday that did not sit well and he is having some gastrointestinal upset. However, other possibilities such as ingestion of a toxic substance or foreign body material may be warranted if he does not improve. You can consider having your veterinarian recheck him if there is no improvement and other diagnostics such as abdominal radiographs or abdominal ultrasound as well as infectious disease testing (such as parvovirus) may be recommended for further assessment of his condition. Maintain fresh water at all times for now to try to keep him hydrated. You may try offer him a bland diet composed of easily digestible food items such as boiled chicken, rice, turkey, ham and lean ground beef. If no improvement on his own I strongly r

Dog hasn't eaten in 3 days and looks lethargic
So sorry that he is sick. It is very concerning that he hasn't eaten in 3 days and is lethargic. There are many possible diseases that could cause those signs including infections, parasites, pancreatitis, gastritis/enteritis, kidney disease, liver disease, endocrine diseases, etc. You could offer him a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice and see if you can get him to eat. If he won't eat and is still lethargic then he should be examined by a vet as soon as possible for a work up. Your vet can run bloodwork and take x-rays to help diagnose and treat. Hope he feels better soon.

A dog may stop eating for a wide variety of reasons, some of which are due to medical conditions and others that may be more behavioral. Medical problems such as gastrointestinal viruses, intestinal obstructions, parasites, or kidney disease, among other conditions, can lead to this problem. Other dogs may become disinterested in their food and may prefer a different flavor of food, or the taste of the food may have changed due to the container in which it is stored. If your dog is still active and playful, you can try to tempt them to eat with a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days before gradually transitioning back to either their original diet or to a new food. (Any time you change diets, be sure to do so gradually by mixing the old and new foods together over 5-7 days.) Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear about Diesel. Abnormal behavior, dry nose, lots of gut sounds, is drinking, but not eating, stools are normal. So I usually advise clients this way- if some abnormal behavior or signs persist (of course depending on their severity) for 12-24 hours, or if they worsen, or other signs develop, I would advise an immediate visit to your vet. Drinking is important as long as there is no fluid losses with vomiting/diarrhea. Not eating isn't as critical but it needs to be monitored. If Diesel won't eat tonight and then won't eat again tomorrow morning, I would advise a vet visit right away. Tonight, if other signs develop, I wouldn't wait, I would get him seen by an emergency vet if you can. Not sure if you know the signs of bloat, but this is seen in GS Dogs. Abdominal distention, dry heaving, restlessness, pain, cannot get comfortable, crying/moaning. If you notice these signs, this is an emergency and he needs to be seen immedi

Sasher does sound pretty sick if she hasn't eaten for three days, and unfortunately anorexia is a general sign of many different illnesses. Things that could be causing this include dental disease, liver failure, kidney failure, heart disease, systemic illness, injury, or cancer to name some. The sooner you get her into the vet, the better. I'd take her now. Best of luck.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This is a quite generic but concerning presentation. Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. The approach must be logic, starting from offering different kind of food. A check up is needed if inappetence lasts for more than 24hours. Poor Charlie sounds like he is ill! Anorexia is a very general sign of illness and it can be caused by dental problems, systemic illness, kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, infection, inflammation, injury, or even cancer. When a dog feels poorly, there are often behavioral changes and that may be why he doesn't care when you lift him. I would have him seen by a vet as soon as possible. My dog won't eat or poop and it has been 3 days. What should I do?
Hi there! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! His current anorexia is likely why he has not been defecating. Anorexia for 3 days is concerning given the possible diseases that could be causing it such as pancreatitis, foreign body ingestion, inflammatory diseases, infectious diseases and even cancer, especially in an older dog. I highly recommend that you have Batista evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment of this. Diagnostic tests are likely to include bloodwork and abdominal radiographs though other tests may be recommended based on the physical examination findings. You may try to offer Batista a palatable diet including things like boiled chicken, ground beef and white rice to entice his appetite though it is extremely important to figure out what is causing it to be able to help him. Keep water available at all times to prevent dehydration. Good luck with your boy! Will keep my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!

Poor Stryker! It definitely sounds like something is wrong. In a young dog like this (especially a Lab!), one thing that I worry about if she hasn't eaten in several days is that she may have an intestinal blockage due to something she swallowed. It's also possible that she has an illness or infection of some kind, dental pain or something wrong with her mouth, or may have ingested something toxic. Since it's been multiple days now that she isn't eating, I would definitely recommend taking her to the vet for an exam as soon as you can. He/she can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

It sounds like Code is sick. I am concerned he hasn't eaten for a day and he's weak. Not eating can be a sign of many problems such as dental disease, systemic illness, infection, or injury.
