Cat still scratching & has fleas after flea medicine. What now?

I gave my cat a flea medication called BARS I think it's Russian and it's the only available medication in the pet store near my house.. I followed the instructions thoroughly and still there are fleas and I think my cat is scratching herself alot as there is scratch marks and wounds around her neck and on her back what should l do??

Make sure as well to disinfect your home from the fleas. Fleas live in the environment, not on your cat, so you have to clean that as well to help keep them off Coca and ensure the medication works. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. If you can bathe her I would suggest doing that. Removing what's left of the topical product can be helpful. This medicated shampoo should help. ( https://www.epetstore.co.za/cat-skin-and-coat-care/allermyl-medicated-shampoo ) Also, you can apply a cortisone spray or cream to her skin. You should be able to pick this up at any pharmacy. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor kitties! Flea allergy can be so stressful to deal with. The main thing is getting rid of fleas effectively as that is the inciting cause driving the itchiness resulting in scratching and self-traumatic lesions like that. If she is already on a flea preventative right at this time, then you could consider switching to a different product. There are many great product in the market such as Frontline and Bravecto, among others. Also, you can use a product called Capstar which can help a lot of fleas at once and that can be administered along with other flea medications. Also, it is important to vacuum the house and all things that have contact with them frequently. Try this for 1-3 months and if does not make a difference, they may have another type of allergy such as a food allergy or environmental allergy. As for the wounds, try to keep the areas clean and have them evaluated by your veterinarian to start them on antibiotics. Good luck and thanks

See your veterinarian for an exam. Sky may need antibiotics to prevent or treat infection of the sores. A short course of steroids followed by antihistamines may provide relief from the itching. Your vet can also dispense Capstar to kill any adult fleas on Sky. Follow up with a topical preventative such as Revolution or Frontline. Either should be applied monthly for at least 3 consecutive months, preferably year round. Vacuum your home/apartment. Clean everywhere Sky has been. Dispose of the bag outdoors. Wash all bedding in the hottest temperature allowed by the fabric. To prevent reinfestation, use an environmental treatment such as Knockout ES.

Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas. Flea products: Spot-ons: Advantage, Advantix Advantage Multi (Advocate in the UK) Frontline (ticks as well) Bravecto spot on (ticks as well) - for cats Revolution (stronghold in the UK) Tablets: comfortis (will only kill fleas once) Collar: Seresto (ticks as well) I

It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30. minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. This appeared last week he was scratching. The flea medication I put them on might not have bee and effective and the ones I normally use. I also changed there food but my older cat is fine
It really depends... some over the counter flea medications can cause allergic reactions. This could be what is going on. I personally never recommend using anything you can buy at the store/Petsmart/etc for cats because most of it contains pyrethrin which is an actual insecticide. It can be highly toxic. I always recommend getting flea control from your vet for two reasons: 1. You know its safe. Manufactures guarantee their products when they are purchased at a Vet. They don't when they are purchased elsewhere. 2. You can get better options. Your vet will carry things like Revolution, which not only protects against fleas, but also ear mites, intestinal worms and heartworms, which can be fatal to cats! If this issue persists, or gets worse, please go see your vet right away. If you are concerned that the product you used may have harmed your cat, give him a bath with Dawn dish soap. You can contact your veterinarian about giving him daily Capstar as well as discuss if he could have a secondary bacterial skin infection from scratching. Mylo may need antibiotics if he has a skin infection. Sometimes a topical sha,poo helps but with recent flea medication applied there is a waiting period before any bathing should be done.
