Why is my dog lethargic, vomiting, not eating, and drinking a lot?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pekingese | Female | unspayed | 15 lbs

Hi, my dog has been feeling down for the past three days and she has not been eating a lot. She is drinking tons of water , so she is never dehydrated. She threw up twice over those course of days and it was liquid and plegm. She has been sleeping a lot lately and continue to be walking slow. Is there anything I should’ve concerned about ? And what home treatments can I give her?

Poor Lucky! I am concerned that she hasn't been eating a lot, drinking tons of water, is lethargic, and has vomited. Those can be signs of a pyometra, which is a life threatening infection of the uterus. Leaving this untreated is fatal. Other causes of her symptoms include GI illness, a foreign body, systemic illness, injury, and pancreatitis. Given the risk of her having a pyometra and because I can't see her in person to rule that out, I do not recommend any home treatments. In my opinion, you need to take her into a vet immediately. As I said above, I would be concerned she has a pyometra and if you didn't take her into a vet right away, that could be fatal. I certainly don't want that to happen, so you should take her into a vet now. The vet can do a physical exam, routine blood tests, urinalysis, and x-rays. If she does have a pyometra, spaying her is part of the recommended treatment. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Good luck and I hope this helps!
