Why is my kitten lethargic after Nemex dewormer for roundworms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 28 days old | 4.8 lbs

Hello. My 7 week old kitten has roundworms in her fecal matter. The vet gave me 3 strong doses of nemex to give her once every two weeks. After giving her the medication, she has seemed off and lethargic. Is this normal?

Some kittens will become lethargic if there is a high worm burden in their intestines. The sudden death of a large number of worms can slow things down in their GI tract and cause discomfort. If she goes longer than 24 hours without food, or is seen having vomiting or diarrhea, then Tessa should be re-evaluated by your vet.
